Chicago The Illinois Medical District Security Group honored several officers for their work in law enforcement and public safety throughout the Illinois Medical District community. The meritorious awards were presented at the Chicago Illini Union on May 30, 2003.

The award recipients are as follows:

State of Illinois Central Management Services Police Department: Investigator John Day; Sergeant John George; Officers David Haldi; Jesse Harris, Jr., Jeffrey Jones, Jimmy Ramirez, and Frank Roman.

Chicago Police Department, 12th District: Officers Joseph Corbett, Sharon Foley, Kenneth Fowler, Anthony Gibbons, James Hall, Daniel Kmety, Fabian Martinez III, and Michael Nallen.

University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department: Sergeant Robert Villasenor; Officers Armando Juarez and Elizabeth Pedersen.

VA Chicago Health Care System Police Department: Detectives Lieutenant Walter C. Gilliam and Officer Elliott Lang.

The election of Joseph L. Curtin, Jr., Chief of Police, State of Illinois Central Management Services Police Department, to serve as the new Chairman of the District Security Group effective September 2003 was also announced at the luncheon. The District Security Group meets regularly at locations throughout the District to promote public safety through communications, best practices and educational presentations.

Day who, along with CMS Police Department Sergeant John George (not pictured), uncovered an identity theft conspiracy that targeted State of Illinois employees.
