NanoInk and GenUs BioSystems Graduate from Chicago Technology Park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 31, 2005

CHICAGO (August 31, 2005) - The Illinois Medical District Commission (IMDC) today announced that two of its companies located in the Chicago Technology Park, NanoInk and GenUs BioSystems, have graduated and successfully transitioned into their new facilities. Each company occupied lab space in the Chicago Technology Park (CTP) Research Center.

NanoInk, a company that is commercializing technology developed at Northwestern University, has moved its team of scientists into a newly renovated lab at its corporate headquarters, just west of downtown Chicago. NanoInk has been utilizing lab space in the CTP since 1999, developing its Dip Pen Nanolithography(TM) (DPN)(TM) technology. DPN is a method of nanoscale manufacturing that enables NanoInk to build nanometer scale structures and patterns by literally drawing materials directly onto a surface. Although applicable to many industries, the company is focusing its commercialization efforts in brand protection, semiconductor and life science applications.

GenUs BioSystems, now located in Northbrook, Illinois, acquired 2,400 square feet of lab office space to accommodate its expansion. Founded in 2003, Genus BioSystems is exclusively focused on gene expression profiling services using the best available bioarray technology. The company's move to a larger facility was prompted by the addition of new technologies and services and by the continued growth of its customer base.

"Our goal is to help companies achieve the next level of growth, said Samuel Pruett, executive director of the Illinois Medical District Commission (IMDC) and president of the CTP. By providing fully equipped infrastructure, university resources, internship programs, custom designed business development services, and a collaborative life sciences community, we provide a turnkey and proven solution for start-up companies."

The park has successfully graduated 27 companies into the local community. The average growth rate of the companies has been 200% in the past four years. Employment has increased from 80 to 400 over the past five years.
