| The Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (CCAC) opened in February 2001. CCAC received major support for construction and operation from the City of Chicago, which provided $7 million toward construction. Cook County and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services also have provided major support. The building, located at 13th Street and Damen Avenue, houses the Child Advocacy and Protection Unit of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Chicago Police Department youth offices, staff from the Illinois Department of Children, and Family Services, medical personnel from the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and children’s advocates and volunteers. All agency members work in teams to help children. Due to the success of this model for intake and investigation, an expansion of the facility is planned.
The Chicago Lighthouse for People who are Blind or Visually Impaired has been a fixture on Chicago’s West Side for over 90 years. Providing programs and services for children and adults who are blind or visually impaired, the Lighthouse offers a wide range of services, including developmental and educational programs, independent living training, clinical programs, and vocational training programs, as well as other support services
Easter Seals Metropolitan Therapeutic Day School and Center for Autism Research
This new, one-of-a-kind, $28,000,000 Therapeutic School and Center for Autism Resarch will help meet the needs created by the explosive growth in autism. The 87,000 square foot facility will incorporate a therapeutic school, specially designed research capabilities, administrative offices as well as independent living facilities in Phave IV of the project. Phase I of the project is exprected to be completeed in late 2008.
Red Cross of Greater Chicago
The Red Cross headquarters are a 57,450 square-foot state-of-the-art disaster operations center located in the Chicago Technology Park. The facility, opened in April, 2004, is home to the administrative and disaster response headquarters of the Red Cross of Greater Chicagoland. The Red Cross of Greater Chicago is a chapter of the American Red Cross. Chartered in 1915, this chapter serves the more than 7.5 million people of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. The American Red Cross, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Rush-Barton Assisted-Living Facility
Rush-Barton Assisted Living Facility is Chicago’s flagship supportive living center for elderly residents. The four-story, 139-unit building is a joint venture of Rush University Medical Center and Barton Senior Care, LLC. The building accommodates 145 residents and cost approximately $14 million. The Illinois Housing Development Authority provides construction and permanent financing.
The Ruth M. Rothstein Core Center
The Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center is a joint venture between the Cook County Bureau of Health Services and Rush University Medical Center. The CORE Center provides a comprehensive range of outpatient care to individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. Programs range from screening and primary care to legal and social services. The Center spans the continuum from the latest treatments and research to prevention and education.
