GreatPoint Energy Ground Breaking
On Wednesday, July 10, GreatPoint Energy (GPE) will break ground on its $2.9 million, 8,400-square-foot state-of-the-art North American corporate headquarters expansion in the heart of the Illinois Medical District. The two-story, glass-and-brick extension of the Enterprise Center I, a 20,000-square-foot building owned by the Illinois Medical District Commission, will complete GreatPoint Energy’s relocation from Cambridge, MA to Chicago. The Illinois Medical District Commission in conjunction with the Julie + Michael Tracy Family Foundation (JMTF) is creating an urban garden in the heart of the Illinois Medical District for young adults with autism. Easter Seals of Metropolitan Chicago and Have Dreams are working in conjunction with the JMTF by developing the curriculum for the 20 young adult clients. Measurable progress will be tracked throughout the summer so reportable data is available to further fuel the work of the JMTF.
Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism are under the age of 22 and – as the population ages – the JMTF wants to ensure that children of autism become resonsible who can lead active, independent lives by using public transportation, having a variety of employment and socializing options, and access to the top medical programs.
United Airlines donated more than 50 volunteers, 20 trees and 20 shrubs to beautify Pasteur Park in the Illinois Medical District in celebration of Arbor Day. The event was a collaboration between United Airlines, Gateway Green and the Illinois Medical District.
The Illinois Medical District Commission announced the new strategic plan for the District at its meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The Commission was joined by members including: Dr. Larry Goodman (Rush), Dr. Skip Garcia (UIC), John Morales (Stroger), and Dr. Wendy Brown (VA), as well as members from the private sector including Jim Tyree, Melinda Richter, Pat Daly, Brian Kelly and the Boston Consulting Group.
