The Near West Side Community is one of the oldest, most diverse and dynamic of Chicago’s 72 community areas. Also known as Community Area 28, the Near West Side is bounded by Kinzie on the North, 16th Street on the South, the Chicago River on the East, and Rockwell on the West. Community Area 28 encompasses 5 square miles or 3,200 acres.

The Illinois Medical District is 2.5 miles from the City’s Central Business District and has 4,638 feet bordering the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) which provides excellent highway access to the area.

While the area has suffered substantial disinvestment and has a high amount of subsidized housing, it has recently begun to experience significant new development in addition to the growth of the District and the University of Illinois.
